Lake Tonle Sap






Lake Tonle Sap is part of and standard itinerary when visiting Siem Reap. Day trips fall into two categories: (1) those offered by TerreCambodge; and (2) all the others. This was the kind of travel day you think you can anticipate or imagine, but then it falls so far outside the realm of your experience that it becomes surreal.

We left the $37-a-night Palm Village Resort (great breakfast included), at 8am with our TerreCambodge guide and took (yet...another) tuk-tuk ride 45 minutes into the Cambodian countryside to the floating village of Chong Khnea. One book described it as sort of a "scummy" area--a description that wasn't off the mark. There, we boarded our sampan and headed out to "sea" on great lake Tonle Sap . . .
