Back in Siem Reap, we visited a large hotel venue to experience the traditional music and dance of Cambodia--beautiful, graceful, fun and folksy.
The best-known dance is Apsara. Apsaras, half woman, half goddess, are heavenly dancers that adorn numerous Angkor temples. Their circular movements, poised motions, and gestures are meant to symbolize their hovering between the cosmos and earth.
At weddings, the flirtatious and fun "coconut dance" is performed--it expresses joy in life and harmony amongst Cambodians.
As impressed as I was with the dance, I have to say, I was actually more impressed with how much Hien can eat. Man, set her loose on a buffet table and step aside--that girl can eat! As you can see from this Hanoi photo, I can just scoop her 87-or-so pounds right on up. (Note the complete absence of strain in my face.) Ha! Don't be fooled!
